The Missing of it All: Archives, Artists, and Absences

David Simes, Chris Hay, Sarah Peters

Abstract

This framing essay offers some reflections on the shape of this special issue of Performance Paradigm on archives, artists, and absences. Drawing on the poetic work of the Unbound Collective, it introduces the key intellectual through-lines of the issue. It also reflects on how the issue arose directly from the 2023 Australasian Association for Theatre, Drama and Performance Studies (ADSA) Conference, hosted by Flinders University. After introducing the individual contributions to the special issue, the essay closes by offering some brief remarks on the future direction of the field.

This issue received funding support from the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University through the CHASS Research Grant Scheme. It also received funding support from the Australian Research Council through the Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme (DE200101426).
